The Handmade Market is moving to St Francis of Assisi Church Hall after spending many success Saturdays at St John's Church Hall. This is a bigger venue as the market is growing month by month.

STOP HS2 Miniature White Elephants on Show in Warwick Road - But for how long?

This was the scene earlier today as the Life Size White Elephant was asked to leave by the council. In it's place stood two miniature White Elephants - but for how long?

In a story that seems to run on and on (unlike the HS2 Consultation that ends tomorrow), the STOP HS2 banner is now claimed to be under investigation.

Kenilworth Horse Fair: Alternative Routes - Sunday 24 July 2011

For those of you who normally travel along Warwick Road and Leamington Road - expect delays or avoid the area on Sunday 24 July 2011 as many visitors are expected at the Kenilworth Horse Fair.

Although this map is unofficial, it may provide a reminder which routes to take in order to speed up your journey. To reach the A46 Northbound, why not use Dalehouse Road or Crewe Lane.

For A46 Southbound, use Brookside Avenue, Mortimer Road and then Leek Wootton. For Leamington, try Leek Wootton, Hill Wootton and rejoin the A452.

STOP HS2 Information Shop at The Kenilworth Business Centre in Warwick Road

Those people still looking for information on HS2 will be pleased to know The Kenilworth Business Centre has been used as a window display. This building has been vacant for many years.

If you know something about how it may be used again, please get in touch. I do know it was mentioned in plans to re-site Buildbase if Kenilworth Railway Station had been given the go ahead.




  Joe Rukin STOP HS2 to wiKenilworth on New HS2 Headquaters by wiKenilworth

Joe Rukin explained, 'That's why this is a bit of a one-off situation. The building as stated was bought to relocate Buildbase into as part of the Kenilworth Station project. Because the Govt didn't come up with the funding for that, the Council are a bit stuck with a building they can't do anything with - they can't take a commercial tenant in case the do get the funding, so have agreed to let us have it rather than leave it empty. 

There will be a working party to clear up and accept donations of furnature this Saturday from 10.40 (9th July) and we are aiming at an official opening on the 16th. 

Temporary Traffic Lights Warwick Road Sainsburys - Expect short delay

Central Networks E-on have a hole in the ground at Warwick Road Sainsburys. There's already a four way traffic light system in place, but they've replaced that with a temporary one.

If you travel southbound from the clock tower expect around three minutes delay. The Green Light is timed at 40s with Red Light at 1m 10s. My guess, stuck in traffic at a standstill would seem alot longer than the three mins.

Warwick District Council Meetings Today - here's how to find them and attend

Let's start with the WDC Calendar of Meetings, this page sets out the month and gives links to what's going on. Today, Tuesday 14 June 2011, there are two meetings.

Regulatory Committee at 2.30pm and Planning Committee at 6.00pm. Unless otherwise stated, all meetings are public held at Leamington Town Hall. There is a large balcony overlooking the Council Chamber.

Kenilworth Town Council Plans

What's happening today? Each meeting has a published agenda. The Regulatory Committee (2.30pm) has seven items, with the last being an Application for a Sex Establishment Licence - there is a further document explaining how Shades in Leamington have been operating for three years and wish to continue (document explains the conditions).

Planning Committee (6.00pm) has seventeen items today, there are 13 items which decisions may be made. These range from North Leamington School (Demolition of existing school buildings, and the construction of 53 new houses and 5 apartments with access road infrastructure and 'open space' facilities), six other Leamington applications, two in Warwick and three in Kenilworth.

The former Kenilworth Weekly News office in Warwick Road has an application to: Extend existing ground floor with new external stairs up to first floor accommodation, with change of use classification to open A1, A2 & A3 use (this means retail food use).

Last on the list is Kenilworth Police Station with: Change of Use from Police Station to multi function building, including accomodation for the following: - Ground floor for temporary use by Kenilworth Senior Citizens Club and first floor for Kenilworth Town Council Chamber and offices and MP Offices.

Mayor Dave Shilton opens the Kenilworth in Bloom Plant Sale

St John's Church Hall hosted the annual Kenilworth in Bloom Plant Sale today.

Mayor Dave Shilton and Sue Edwards (see the video) welcomed eager gardeners and plant lovers this morning. It was fantastic to see such a large queue waiting to be personally greeted by the Mayor. All proceeds from the sale will contribute towards funding the many hanging baskets and floral displays around the town over the next few months. This photo shows one of the many customers who came prepared - this one by trolley.

The Community Warden Scheme will be launched on Tuesday, 1 February 2011 with eight wardens in Kenilworth patrolling both residential and business areas.  The CWS was featured in a BBC Midlands Today report (29 Oct 2010) which contains statements from the Warwickshire Police. At the time of the press reports, the CWS was in an early stage of development There will be some planned events, in the next few weeks, where the Kenilworth people can meet and get to know the wardens.

From the owner: Our Warden Service is launching in Kenilworth in Feb 2011. Providing members with a 24 hour foot patrol and a fast response service in dealing with anti-social behaviour. Wardens will be carrying out highly visible foot patrols carrying CCTV on the streets and recreational areas of Kenilworth, acting as a visual deterrent against anti-social behaviour. The Community Warden Scheme MUST NOT be confused with the Police. Members are still encouraged to call 999 in the event of an emergency.

Petrol Prices in Kenilworth - how high can they go?

19 Jan update, Fuel prices were featured on the BBC One Show last night (video report starts at 2mins into the show). It said, 128p is the average unleaded price (with 63% tax) making 80p going to the taxman with prices set to rise even higher.

18 Jan, Petrol Prices are at an all time high - is it time for those mass protests again?  Both Shell and Jet in Kenilworth are the same price of 126.9p Unleaded and 130.9p Diesel (18 Jan). All at a time when Shell in Warwick Road are applying for 24hr opening. At time of writing, there are around 30 comments objecting to the proposal (and a few in favour). It is understood that the shop will be closed and all sales are through the serving hatch. In the meantime, KWN article and two visualisations:

Foxes in Kenilworth - Are they a Problem?

In June 2010, a fox entered a house in London and attacked two children while they slept (BBC News). Following that, experts said a cull would be needed to keep down Britain's out of control fox population. Further stories hit the media around the same time such as the woman who was sleeping and thought her cat was nibbling her ear - it wasn't. 

What is interesting, in my view, is how local Councils do not have to remove foxes. Warwick DC have produced a document called Urban Foxes outlining where a fox may live, why the council does not control them (it's difficult, expensive and rarely successful apparently) and what you can do about them yourself.

So what about Kenilworth? I live off Warwick Road - I've seen up to three foxes together wandering down the centre of the road, inspecting every house and being pretty relaxed about it. In six weeks time, the weather will turn and the occasional back door maybe left open. So is there a problem with foxes in Kenilworth? Kenilworth Pest Control and Search UK are the two experts in town - they don't seem to have many calls about foxes (as yet), but as I was told - it may help if people stopped feeding them.
