It's Your Kenilworth Town website - what are you going to do with it?

Official Town Website
After the May 2011 elections and appointment of a new Kenilworth Town Council, I have been asked for my views on how the kenilworthweb.co.uk can be make better.

I have a list of ideas as long as my arm, but I am one person, where you are many. So, over to you - what do you think? For the record, the site's had a few updates in the last few weeks - you will need a magnifying glass to spot them... Have an idea, leave a comment below.

2 comments:

  1. 1. Better use of white space (widen the site)
    2. A calendar instead of a list of events (If you get as far as doing that let me know) I am still looking.
    3. Something that attracts the younger community
    4. Banner picture to perhaps move or change to reflect all of Kenilworth
    5. I like interactive sites perhaps video, Social Media Tools,

Just passing by and giving a personal opinion.

  2. The look and feel needs updating and the site needs to do more to faciltate interaction (where is Kenilworth's "official" social media presence?), but most importantly existing content needs expanding and there is much more content which could be added.

The biggest problem is that no one is updating the site. Why not open up editing and maintaining the site to a small group of trusted volunteer web editors? I'd volunteer a few hours a month, and I'm sure others would too.

I feel there is little on the site to attract current residents. The events section could be a big draw if it was complete and up-to-date.

Why not allow a larger group of registered people to upload events to the website? In Birmingham we have Live Brum, which venue owners, promoters, curators, event organisers can quickly and easily add events too. I've used it to promote events at Aston University and had a good response.

Essentially, I think we need to hand over more of the development and maintenance of the town website, to the town's community.
